What is Osteopathy?

Proper alignment, mobility and balance are the keys to achieving and maintaining overall good health. Osteopathy is a very gentle but deep approach that looks at the root cause of a problem, rather than simply treating the symptoms.  A person's entire medical and emotional history is taken into consideration during the initial evaluation in order to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

By the time a person presents in our office with a particular symptom or pain, the body has already compensated for many micro-traumas, both physical and emotional.  It is an Osteopath's most complex challenge to sift through all the layers of compensation in order to find the main, causative factor.  Through precise palpation, the Osteopath will work on reestablishing mobility and balance through all the different parts and systems of the body, thereby allowing them to interrelate more efficiently.

Who is an Osteopath?

An Osteopath in Quebec is someone who has completed a Bachelor's degree prior to the 5 years of theoretical and practical studies in Osteopathy.  After completing a thesis, the Osteopath obtains the designation 'diplomé en ostéopathie' or 'D.O.'.
